Delightful Daisies
What's the cure for the winter blues? How about some delightful, and very colorful, daisies?

Reception Sites
As promised, here is a short summary of the venues we are considering for the reception site.
Option 1. Hale Koa Hotel
For those of you who don't know, this is the military hotel. Since P will still be in the reserve we would have the ability to use this hotel. The luau food is fantastic and the prices are unbeatable. What I really like is the Luau Garden, however, in order to use it there is minimum guest list size, which is bigger than what we are planning for.
Option 2. Moana Surfrider
First of all, I LOVE how beautiful this hotel is! Known as the "First Lady of Waikiki" this historic hotel is considered a legendary landmark. (For more about the history behind this hotel check out this website.) One of the many things I love about this hotel are the rockers that are on the front veranda.
When you walk into the lobby there is a gorgeous chandelier and a beautiful staircase.
Did I mention the huge Ionic columns and old-fashioned light fixtures? This lobby definitely has the feeling of a different time period.
My favorite venue site at this hotel is the Lani Kai Room. It's on the ocean side of the hotel and overlooks the beach. The view is spectacular!
Below is the balcony, which would serve as the perfect place for a cocktail hour.
The other venue option at this hotel is the ballroom. My favorite part of the ballroom is the enormous arched windows which overlook Kalakaua Avenue. Despite the beauty of this room, I'm not too thrilled about the view of Kalakaua and would much rather prefer to use the Lani Kai Room with the view of the ocean.
Option 3. Waialae Country Club
What I love most about Waialae Country Club is that it's on the water and has a gorgeous view of mountains and ocean. Unlike the hotels, there is a sense of privacy and intimacy. Since renovations will be underway this upcoming summer, I did not take any photos of the inside as things will be a different by the time 2012 arrives. I would be happy with any of these places as our reception site. Since I have attended formal events at all 3 locations, I am familiar with each and know that they all have great food and service. So which one will we decide on? Stay tuned!

The Church
We have decided on the church and officiant. We will be having the ceremony at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Honolulu and Fr. Secor will be officiating.
I'll be honest, I'm not a very religious person so when P asked that we have a Catholic ceremony I was a bit hesitant. After meeting with Fr. Secor and getting information about what the ceremony would be like and the requirements we'd have to fulfill, I feel better about everything. Unfortunately, the logistics is more complicated than we had anticipated, but I think we'll be able to work things out. It's a good thing we started the process now so that we have ample time to finish our counseling sessions and complete the Engaged Encounter weekend.

Orchid Obsession
The more I look at photos of wedding flower arrangements (from bridal bouquets to centerpieces), the more obsessed I become with orchids. I had no idea that there are so many different varieties that are grown in a rainbow of colors.
One of my favorite varieties is the green cymbidium orchid. Bridesmaid bouquets made of these would go well with pink dresses! I am also in love with the white cymbidium with the pink center, which would make a beautiful bridal bouquet.

6 months into our engagement
and roughly 17 months to go until the big day!
It's hard to believe that we've been engaged for 6 months. We've been enjoying our status as a newly engaged couple, but I wonder: how much longer can we continue to say that we are "newly engaged"? Now that we've hit the 6 month mark and we're starting to get into the details of planning, perhaps it is time to shed the "newly engaged" status and admit we are in the midst of wedding planning.
As many of you know, we spent Christmas in Hawaii. While the primary reason was so that I could be home to spend the holidays with my family, this trip also gave us the opportunity to meet with a priest and look at venues.
Lucky for me, I received a wedding planning binder for Christmas from P's mom. It is perfect and will definitely help me keep all of the planning information organized. I especially love that it includes information about the types of questions I should be asking when talking with different vendors. As it's title suggests, it really is the ULTIMATE wedding planner and organizer. Ok, and really my favorite part of this binder is that it's hot pink! See?
