Saying Yes to the Dress: BM Edition

Last weekend my little, who is also one of my bridesmaids, drove down from Chicago to visit me.  We had so much fun catching up.  It is crazy how long it has been since the last time we saw each other (at least 2 years, if not longer), and yet it felt like no time had gone by at all.

Obviously, I had to take advantage of the fact that I had 2 (out of 3) bridesmaids in Bloomington at the same time.  I scheduled an appointment for us to look at BM dresses at a small boutique in Indy.  According to the Bill Levkoff website, this boutique carried their dresses.  I had gone online and found several different styles I wanted to the girls to try on and was very excited about seeing the dresses in person.  The girls were also looking forward to trying dresses on.  So we drove an hour to Indy, only to be disappointed that the boutique no longer carries Bill Levkoff dresses.  We proceeded to pull dresses anyway, figuring that at the very least, we could decide on fabric type and color.  I was hoping to take pictures, but unfortunately the dresses are from the boutique's own private label so they wouldn't let us take pictures.  I found this absolutely ridiculous since the dresses were nothing too special.  We found several styles that were very close to ones I had seen on the BL website.  Here's what we came away with:

1. We are going to go with satin dresses.  Chiffon was too clingy and not very flattering.
2. I love raspberry pink (or whatever shade is closest to it).  Thank goodness my BMs agree.  The swatches that we saw seem to work well with all skin tones.
3. I am definitely not recommending people to go to this boutique.  I know it's not completely their fault that the BL website still lists them as carriers of their dresses, BUT the consultant we had was horrible.  She was not friendly, energetic, or helpful and had an attitude that was unbecoming.  I am very glad that we will not be ordering dresses from this boutique.  

MF and I plan to take a road trip to Chicago to visit my little and also go to a boutique in the city that definitely carries Bill Levkoff dresses.  We're all very excited for them to try on the 3 styles that we all agreed we liked best.  All of the dresses are European Satin and from what we could tell on the computer, we like the watermelon pink.  Below is a picture of one of the dresses in watermelon pink and is actually almost exactly like one of the dresses my BMs tried on at the Indy boutique (and which they would not let us take a picture of).

Unfortunately, since my sister (the MOH) is in Seattle and will not be able to come out to Chicago, she'll have to try on dresses on her own.  Since all 3 dress styles are somewhat similar, I have decided to let each girl pick the one that fits her the best.  I guess at this point, I need to figure out where to order the dresses from.  Since all 3 girls live in different states (from each other, from the wedding location, and also from me) and it's been made clear that the dresses should be ordered at the same time from the same place to ensure they're the exact same color, I'm probably going to end up either ordering the dresses from a boutique at home or from one close to me.  Either way, I'll have to then ship the dresses to each girl.  Oh, the joys of planning a wedding from afar.

Overall, it was a great weekend.  And despite not getting to see the dresses we hoped to see, the BMs and I had fun looking.  I also think they had fun trying things on.  After all, what girl doesn't like to play dress up?
